WARNING: this is experimental code. use it at your
own risk. the code is programmed to be as cross-platform
as possible. however, there are pieces of code that are
not cross-platform. these includes the volume management
code which currently uses ioctl and sys/soundcard.h which
is OS specific. the MPEG2-layer3 decoder code is cross
platform in itself. however, the audio playback uses
esound.
Remote Sensory Control and Data Acquisition Daemon
for the Sensory Control and Data Acquisition -
Total Environmental Management System (SCADA-TEMS)

The SCADA-TEMS is a project developed jointly by Fifth
year(Batch 2002) BS Computer Engineering students of the
Ateneo de Manila University. This project was requirement
of the CE 150 Computer Interfacing class. This project
aims to develop a extendable, portable and comprehensive
Environmental Management System. In liu of this goal,
the team has decided to automate certain environmental
aspect of a classroom such as lights, temperature and
general ambiance.
The SCADA-TEMS is composed on two major components:
Hardware Features:
-light state and intensity control
-airconditioning control
-lights and temperature sensors
-centralized control interface to the PC
Software Features:
-network daemon implementing the SACP protocol
-customizable hardware interfaces via loadable modules
-user authentication via Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM)
-built in MPEG2-Layer3 decoder, audio mixer and playback library
-built in ECP control library
-SACP clients in Java and PHP
-GSM to SACP gateway in Perl
The SCADA-TEMS project aims to fully manage the environmental
aspect of the F311 classroom. This project can be extented
to actual industry SCADA applications.

The server's responses should be like an FTP server's responses;
1xx for in progress, 2xx for success, 3xx for more information
needed, 4xx for temporary failure, and 5xx for permanent failure.
Putting it all together, here's a sample conversation:

This simple protocol is only meant to be an presentation layer protocol.
Applications should be written to enable users to be able to access the
system via this protocol. Some client applications are included in this
distribution in the clients folder. There is a java client and a web-based
PHP client. These are just simple reference implementation clients only
and were not meant to be used in the production environments.
Installation Procedure:

1. Edit configure.user if necessary and type 'make'.
2. Install in /usr/sbin, owned by root and executable only by root.
3. Add to /etc/syslog.conf:
local4.err /var/log/scadad
4. Create a file /etc/pam.d/scadad and it must contain the following
lines:
