1 - Incoming Call Connection

DESCRIPTION

  • Incoming call rings
  • Computer answers with "good morning! please enter the last name of the person you wish to talk to."
  • Caller keys in last name of Faculty1
  • Computer says, "hold the line please"
  • Computer parses up to the fourth character
  • Computer looks up data base to determine the Faculty1's location
  • Computer calls the Faculty1's name, while allowing the calling party to hear it
  • Faculty1 answers with "YES"
  • Computer hears it and releases the routine
  • Conversation commences

 
 
2 - Conference Call


         T O P         NEXT         PREVIOUS

DESCRIPTION

  • Faculty1 tells Caller to please wait
  • Faculty1 flashes button
  • Computer responds with a beep
  • Faculty1 enters last name of Faculty2
  • Faculty2 answers with "YES"
  • Any number of extensions may be connected for this conference call feature
  • The call is terminated when Faculty1 hangs up


   
 
3 - Wiring Considerations

DESCRIPTION

  • Ordinary telephone extensions are connected in a "radial" configuration from the "switch"
  • The system is conceptualized here is to use as few as four twisted lines, without shielding, and it goes around as a "ring" with drop-off points at each subscriber set.
  • All the sets are connected in parallel.

 
 
4 - Privacy

DESCRIPTION

  • Only those sets called by Faculty1 into a "conference call" mode will be granted access to the line
  • Sets that are not specifically called by Faculty1 will hear a distinctive beep which signifies that the line is being used


 
 
5 - Calling an Outside Number

DESCRIPTION

  • Outside numbers can be accessed from any local
  • Faculty1 lifts the handset and waits for a PABX dial tone
  • Faculty1 hears PABX tone and dials "9"
  • An outside dial tone will be given
  • Faculty1 dials outside line
  • If there is need for a conference call, the routine described above will be used


 
 
6 - Calling Another Faculty or Staff

DESCRIPTION

  • Faculty1 lifts the handset and waits for a PABX dial tone
  • Faculty1 enters first four characters of last name of Faculty2
  • The PABX System searches the data base for the location of Faculty2, or if he has a scheduled class, or if he has not logged in
  • If he has logged in, the call is directed to the location where he has logged in
  • If he has a scheduled class, OR if he has not logged in, the call is automatically directed to the Department Secretary


 
 
7 - Paging Facility


         T O P         NEXT         PREVIOUS

DESCRIPTION

  • If Department Secretary knows that Faculty2 is in school, but has not logged in, or does not have a class, Secretary activates the Paging Facility
  • Alternately, Faculty1 may also activate Paging Facility
  • In either case, Secretary or Faculty1 enters, for example, "001" to activate Paging Facility
  • PABX responds with a characteristic tone to indicate its readiness
  • Secretary OR Faculty1 enters the first four letters of Faculty2's last name
  • All the locals will be simultaneously activated by the PABX
  • A call for Faculty2 will be issued by the PABX and will be heard at all the locals
  • Faculty2 responds and is connected to talk to either, or both, the Secretary and Faculty1
