A Different Design
The Tristan HEV design uses proven and reliable technologies that are in use in the power industry. Inexpensive and off-the-shelf motors are used. These are easily maintained by licensed technicians. An inexpensive "black box" controller drives the motors, and is used to feed power back to the grid for extra income. Best of all, its control systems are scalable from small cars to very large diesel-fired vehicles.
Our Future...
As the spunky "Sophia Petrillo" of the 80s hit TV show The Golden Girls would say, "Picture it! Sicily 1912", but I say, "Picture it! World 2011. Arid land stretching out for miles. In comes the Tristan Diesel Hybrid-Electric truck. Our jaw hangs as we see Jack the Farmer not only haul rice from the field with it, we see him run his 10-kW 3-phase irrigation pump, his electric weed cutter, his rice mill! Whoa! All this, all off the systems and batteries of the Tristan truck!
And the city folks will have a similar story. This time, it will be about their plug-in miles-per-gallon, it will be about how much gas they save, and about their extra income from feeding power back to the grid, through a feed-in utility tariff schedule. And the developing economies will set up manufacturing plants in their backyard. They would rather spend foreign exchange for the development of their country and their people, than buy oil to burn. And those suffering from disease caused by pollution will be thankful! And the earth will now be able to start breathing freely, again.

Overall Thermal Efficiency
This Hybrid-Electric Vehicle is designed to improve the overall thermal efficiencies of vehicles that operate under heavy traffic conditions in the streets of Manila and other big cities, like New York City, Bangkok, and the like. The choice of the ratings of the engine, batteries, 3-phase AC motor, and the design of its control algorithm, assures that it will also be efficient on the freeway.
The system is scalable from a small vehicle to a diesel-fired passenger bus. Manufacturers around the world may also consider building the vehicle from "ground-up", along-side the models that they are already developing. Engineering shops may offer this design as a retrofit system to existing vehicles.
The design is environment-friendly. It runs its engine only at operating conditions where it is most efficient in burning fuel.
Finally, this general-purpose design may accommodate any brand or make of engine, batteries, and motors. It optimizes the system around off-the-shelf items.
